Explore Your Archive Week

This week has been Explore Your Archive Week supported by The National Archives and The Archives and records Association UK and Ireland. There have been loads of events all over the UK and Ireland celebrating and exploring lots of different types of archives. At the heart of this week-long celebration has been the key message that…

“A world without records is a world without memory”

Brent Museum and Archives is running a reduced service at the moment and therefore we could not do all of the exciting things we wanted to during this week. We hope next year we can do something extra special.

This week has however been the first full week our free temporary exhibition Brent Remembers: Five Lives has been open at Brent Civic Centre. Temporary exhibitions are a brilliant way for archives to increase access to their collections, place items on display which are too fragile for permanent display and show new material recently donated or discovered.

For Brent Remembers: Five Lives we drew heavily on the archives to choose the five personalities at the heart of the exhibition. We even discovered new material which has now been placed on display. We hope you enjoy the above posters created to link our exhibition to this week of archive celebration.

Brent Museum and Archives helps hundreds of people every year with research enquiries. Many people are enquiring to build up their knowledge of their family tree or trying to find out a bit more about their house or buildings in the area. We are so pleased when we are able to help people with their enquiries and hope we can be even more helpful when we move into our new building next summer.
