Compliments of the Season…
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas…but if like us you’re a little less than prepared for the big day here is the team’s top picks for last minute Christmas presents for the history buff in your life!
Our curator, Niti dreams of boarding the restored Metropolitan Railway Jubilee Carriage No. 353 early next year to retrace the journey made by the very first underground train. Unfortunately the ticket ballot is closed, but if it’s any conciliation there’s a new gift range commemorating 150 years of the underground, including beautiful vintage poster prints. http://www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk.
Assistant Archivist, Ros is hoping for tickets to the Tower of London, especially in time for the “Deck the Halls” event tomorrow (23rd December). In the Medieval palace, the knights and ladies will gather by candle-light to swap tales of saints and sinners, chivalry and sorcery and recreate Christmas as it was 700 years ago. http://www.hrp.org.uk/TowerOfLondon/WhatsOn/Historicalre-enactments.
Topping my list would be a photographic walking tour led by architectural photographer Grant Smith exploring the city’s architecture from Wren to Rogers. http://www.open-city.org.uk/activities/yearround
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to seeing you in 2013! posted by Rachel
