A bit of a bind!
Regular visitors to Willesden Green Library Centre will know that following the success of the New Windows on Willesden Green project at the end of 2011, more exciting activities to benefit local residents have been going on at the Centre through the ‘Library Lab’ project.
In partnership with New Windows on Willesden Green, Architecture 00:/ has set up the Library Lab on the ground floor at Willesden Green Library Centre. Until July, the space will be hosting free workshops and lectures, and a pop-up co-working space aimed at accelerating local entrepreneurship in the Brent community. You can see the full list of workshops on the Library Lab website, but we thought that one topic might be of particular interest to those of you with an interest in archives and books. Bookbinding is a craft whose roots go back hundreds of years, and is still a key skill for archive and book conservators, who may repair or entirely rebind volumes to ensure their ongoing preservation and use.
The Library Lab team are offering you the chance to try it out for yourself at two workshops today, Wednesday 11 Aprl, and next week, on Wednesday 18 April from-5pm.-8pm At ‘The Takeaway Shop’, Amy Lord will be showing you some of the skills involved with a book-making and book-binding session, including the chance to make a cover and fill your book with material of choice.
For more information, or contact details for the Library Lab, visit their website, or drop in; the opening hours are Monday – Friday, 2-6pm.
