Join the party!
With the typical British summer weather we’ve been having, we’re glad that come rain or shine, our Festival of Britain street party this Wednesday won’t be rained off, like some of the original street parties back in 1951!
Come and help us re-enact Brent’s Festival of Britain celebrations at our indoor street party, which will be taking place in the foyer at Willesden Green Library Centre this Wednesday, 24 August, from 1-4.30pm. Families can explore 1950s lifestyle and be inspired to make something to wear – and everyone can join us for tea, cakes and juggling, and to find out more about the Festival of Britain, and Brent and Britain during the decade of change that was the 1950s.
The party will be rounded off by a display of Asian folk dancing, performed by ENCEE Academy, celebrating Brent’s community 60 years on from the folk dancing displays that took place for the Festival of Britain.
We will also be joining the fun at Southbank for Weekend 51, the culmination of the Story of London festical on Sunday 28 August from 12.30-4pm, where Brent residents will be reinterpreting the celebrations of 1951 with a display of folk dancing. Get there early to find out what the other participating boroughs are doing to recreate their own Festival celebrations – or visit the Southbank website to find out more!
